Soma Nomaoi Festival

Today was Day 1 for a new filming project. We came to Minamisoma in Fukushima to film the festival called Soma Nomaoi.

I had heard about Soma Nomaoi but never seen so I was looking forward to seeing it this time. However during research, I read stories like being scolded so hard if you cross a street while they have a samurai procession, or you can never look down on them so the town closes down pedestrian overpass, which doesn't happen in other festivals so I was a bit nervous about how we would do (sounds tense, right?).

But after filming the whole day, I found that they are generally quite kind though many of them seem formidable at the first glance and they are very proud of being part of the festival. It was massive to see so many samurais gathered.

In the interview the Supreme Commander, the 34th generation of Soma Clan, he shared with us that he would try to act like a respected prince not only during the festival but also on a daily basis. He is influenced by his position constantly-- born to the clan with tradition to have a sprit of samurai in the modern days. I think it applies to any situation. If you want to be careful how to act or what to say when needed, or if you want to discipline yourself even if no one sees it.

There was something for me to learn too♪
