清澄白河のお隣門前仲町には富岡八幡宮という大きな神社があり、そこで酉の市をやっています。この神社、去年、残念なことに宮司の殺人事件があったので覚えている方もいらっしゃるかもしれないですね。神社自体は都心にしては広く情緒もありました。
酉の市は夜中もやっています。初めて熊手を買うときは、誘ってくれた同僚がわたしの分を買ってくれました。最初のは、人に買ってもらうといいんだよ、と言って。
わたしは山を切り拓いて住宅街を作った場所の出身で、下町のようなお祭りが熱心な場所で育ったわけではなく、そもそも酉の市のことはそれまで知りませんでした。関西圏では、大阪のえべっさんがありますが、その頃親は自営業でもなかったため、遠い文化だという感覚でした。
そんなわたしでしたが、酉の市は同僚に連れて行ってもらって以来、ほぼ毎年のように行っています。今は、浅草にほど近い鷲（おおとり）神社の酉の市に行っています。規模が大きく、屋台もすごい数が出店して、お酉さまの日は混雑がすごいです。去年は歌舞伎俳優の方も拝見しました。さあ、今年はどの日に行くか考えなくては。
There is a big shrine called Tomioka Hachimangu in Monzen-Nakacho, next to Kiyosumi Shirakawa holding Torinoichi. Unfortunately there was the priest homicide last year so some of you may know about it. The shrine is spacey and nice thinking it's located in the center of Tokyo.
Torinoichi opens at midnight as well as during the day when it's held. When I bought my first rake, my colleague bought me one because she said it would bring you luck if someone buys a first rake.
I am from a reconstructed residential area and never had big festivals like in shitamachi. I didn't even know about Torinoichi until I moved to Kiyosumi. In Kansai, where I grew up, we had Toka Ebisu but I felt it was something happening really far because my parents didn't run any business by themselves at the time. I was just so unfamiliar.
But I've gone to Torinoichi almost every year since then. Now I go to Otori Shrine near Asakusa. It's a big scale event there with so many street venders packed with people. I saw a kabuki actor last year too. I need to think what day I should go this year.
