劇作家、平田オリザさんのことは以前から、きちんと筋の通った考えをする人だな、とメディアを通じて思っていました。そんな折、平田さんが来年兵庫県豊岡市に移住するという記事を読み、俄然、この地に興味がわきました。
東京で生まれ育ち、東京で十分活躍してきた方が地方へ移住する。しかも、例えば京都や広島といった規模の土地ではなく兵庫県の中の豊岡市。正直、関西出身のわたしでも、豊岡と言われてすぐにピンときませんでした。
城崎温泉などの近くらしいですが、平田さんがこの場所に移住を決めた理由がふるっています。「豊岡が世界と戦える」場所だからだそうです。勝算がある、ということ。彼にそう思わせる土地ってなんだろう！

などの要素が挙げられています。
わたしも、住まいや職が東京に集中していることがいろんなストレスを引き起こしているんだと思っています。私自身、東京に住んでいるのでそういう要因になっているのですが、とにかく満員電車のすごさひとつとっても、ストレスかかりすぎ！ こういう、別の場所で物事が発展するかもしれない知らせは楽しみすぎます。今後、豊岡がどうなっていくか要チェックです。
I always thought a Japanese playwriter/ director Oriza Hirata had a consistent and reasonable way of thinking through media. One day, I read the article about his relocation to Toyooka, Hyogo along with his play company Seinendan and I was interested in Toyooka.
He was born, grew up and has been successfully working in Tokyo. And it's not Kyoto or Hiroshima where he is going. Toyooka, Hyogo. I wasn't sure where exactly it was when I read it even though I'm from Kansai. It's close to Kinosaki, onsen (hot springs) town.
He decided on Toyooka because it has enough reasons to compete with the world. He thinks he can win when based in Toyooka. What do they have there?
*Liberal town
*Jobs available because they already have touristy
*Enough accommodation already
*Right size as a city
I do think condensed Tokyo causes so much stress for the people living and working in Tokyo. I am part of what consists of Tokyo too, but think about how packed trains are. Tokyo is too packed and stressful! I really am excited to hear news about things possibly develop in different parts of Japan. I will surely pay attention to the city of Toyooka.
