先日目にしたニュースで信じられないものがありました。上智大学の林道郎という教授が、自身の研究室にいた修士学の学生に対し性的関係を持ったことで訴えられているというもの。そもそも訴えは、教授の妻から学生に対してだそうで、そこの裁判は司法に任すとしましょう。
信じられないのは、以下の二つです。まず。教授自身がたまたまラブホテルでの指導ということもあった、と主張していること。もう一つは、上智大学が、個人の問題なので関与しないという姿勢を打ち出していること。ラブホテルで「指導」！よくもまあ、こんなに突拍子もない言い訳を恥ずかしげもなく言えるなというのが最初の印象。そし大学側の我関せずの姿勢も信じられません。
わたしの中でのスタンダードは、大学という場所で教える立場の人が生徒と関係を持つと、問答無用で処分されるというものです。上下関係がある場合、本人同士がいくら恋愛関係だと主張しても、そこにはどうしても断りにくい関係が潜んでいるからです。
先日ブログに書いた「グレイズ・アナトミー」では、上司と部下の立場での恋愛関係がたくさん繰り広げられているので、当然上下の性的関係に厳しいアメリカでも起きるというのはあるでしょう。でも、大学では教官と学生の性的な関係の禁止を明言しているところはいくつもあります。上智大学のこの対処、信じられません。
There is the news that I couldn't believe the other day. Professor Michio Hayashi of Sophia University had a sexual relationship with his student in his lab, and his wife was suing the student. I will leave the court handle that part. What I couldn't believe were these two points;
The professor is saying guiding her sometimes happened at love hotels. And Sophia University is saying it's between the parties so there is nothing the university will do to him. The excuse the professor is saying is ridiculous. Guiding her at a love hotel!? What the... how shameless this is. And the attitude Sophia has, can you believe?
The ethics I believe in is to punish a teacher if they have sexual relationships no matter if it's their will or not because if you have a vertical relationship, there could be a possibility the one in a lower position might have a difficult time to say no.
Of course I see vertical relationships a lot in the TV series I've been watching "Grey's Anatomy" so even in the U.S. where they are more strict about it, so it happens. But I also know many universities actually "ban" sexual relationships as an institute between a teacher and a student. I just cannot believe Sophia's decision.
