今週の農家さんからのメールには、気温が低いことや近頃の天候が雨が続くか全く降らないかのどちらかで、夏野菜の成長が悪いというお知らせが書いてありました。
冷えが続くと、暑さが好きなオクラ、モロヘイヤ、落花生等はうまく育たないのだとか。こちらの農家さんはきゅうり、キャベツ、茎ブロッコリーの収穫も遅れているそうで、どんどん極端になる天候に右往左往という印象。
結局、温暖化は待ったなしで進んでいきます。戦争や銃での乱射なんてしていても仕方がないと思います。地球の早急な課題は、もっと別のところにあり、人類の叡智を結集して挑まないと、地球そのものが今の生物では生きられない場所になってしまうのではないでしょうか。
This week's email from my farmer says the summer vegetables are growing slowly due to the low temperatures and extreme weather; either very dry or very wet.
When cold days continue, plants like okra, Jew's mallows, peanuts do not grow well. His veggies including cucumbers, cabbages and stem broccolis have grown slow too. It all comes from the extreme weather.
Climate change does not stop. Why do we need to have wars and gun rampages? Don't we have something else to tackle more urgently? Are we going to leave the planet where no living creatures now can survive? Don't we need to gather our wisdoms now?
